Descendants of the Sun

Captain of the Korean Special Forces Yoo Si-jin and Dr. Kang Mo-yeon are people he encounters while transporting a juvenile thief to the hospital with Master Sergeant Seo Dae-young.  He draws her in right away, but she thinks he was the one who hurt the man. They begin dating when their mistake is cleared up, and everything seems to be going well until he gets moved to Uruk, a fictitious nation in the Balkans. Though it would mark the end of their romance, Dr. Kang and her staff are soon given the responsibility of managing a field hospital in Uruk. The soldier and doctor are reunited as a result. Together, they had to overcome a number of threats, including an earthquake and a run-in with a band of criminals lead by one of Yoo Si-former jin's allies. There are other relationships; Master Sergeant Seo Dae-young has an on-again, off-again relationship with First Lieutenant Yoon Myung-ju, who is forbidden from dating enlisted men by her father, a general. I really liked this...

Sonic The Hedgehog 2

The first Sonic film was a near-miracle. Following online backlash in response to the original teaser, the animators went back to the drawing board to offer viewers what they wanted. Despite the fact that I didn't grow up playing Sonic (we had a Super Nintendo), I was cheering for the film to succeed since it was evident that the creative team was invested in the ultimate result. I was pleasantly pleased to learn that it was a box office success, but even more so to learn that it was actually a good film.

                                  Sonic The Hedgehog 2

For better or worse, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 offers more of what fans appreciated in the previous film. While I believe the novelty has worn off, this is still a fantastic excursion for the whole family. The animation is really colorful and lively, especially when it comes to Sonic and his animated rivals. If you didn't have an opportunity to see it in theaters, be sure you view it in 4K at home - it's breathtaking!

Given that it's aimed at a younger audience, it's a little too long at little over two hours. In the first half, there are a few needless side plots that might have easily been cut, allowing for a smoother overall flow. While there are some funny moments in this film, much of the humor is adolescent and fell flat for me. Again, this is a children's film, so I can't complain too much because I'm not the intended audience.

The entire ensemble from the original film reprises their roles, with Ben Schwartz reprising his role as Sonic. His voice has an animated aspect to it, and it's a great match for our quick blue hero. Jim Carrey, of course, is the true star of the show. He brings Doctor Robotnik to life in a way that only he could, with an even more erratic performance than in the previous picture. Knuckles and Tails, voiced by Idris Elba and Colleen O'Shaughnessy, have joined the cast. They're fantastic additions to the ensemble, and I'm hoping to see them again in the inevitable third installment.

This is a fun and wonderfully drawn film that your kids will enjoy, and if you grew up playing Sonic games, you'll enjoy it as well.
